British administration in Nigeria 1900–1950: A Nigerian view
This book presents a Nigerian perspective on the structure, policies, and impact of British colonial administration in Nigeria between 1900 and 1950. Written by I. M. Okonjo, the study examines the political framework established by the British, including indirect rule, administrative divisions, taxation, legal institutions, and relations with traditional authorities. Okonjo also analyzes how colonial governance shaped Nigeria’s political development, social structures, and the transition toward self-government. Offering a critical and historically grounded interpretation, the book remains an important contribution to the understanding of Nigeria’s colonial experience and its long-term implications.
