Rise up and walk: An autobiography
Rise Up and Walk is the autobiography of Bishop Abel Tendekai Muzorewa, one of Zimbabwe’s most prominent religious and political leaders during the transition from colonial rule to independence. In this personal narrative, Muzorewa recounts his early life, spiritual calling, and rise to leadership within the United Methodist Church. He details his political involvement through the African National Council, his pivotal role in the nationalist movement, and his negotiations during the turbulent Rhodesian era.
The book provides a firsthand account of Zimbabwe’s struggle for majority rule, the internal settlement, and Muzorewa’s brief tenure as Prime Minister of Zimbabwe-Rhodesia in 1979. Offering both political reflection and spiritual insight, the autobiography captures the challenges, hopes, and contradictions of a nation on the brink of transformation. It remains a significant historical document for understanding Zimbabwe’s path to independence.
