FVR through the years part II
Now that he is a private citizen, I still cover him from time to time because his voice and opinions still carry a strong weight as a senior statesman. My coverage of him during the war in Mindanao in the 1970s and 1980s was full of adventure and danger. At times I found myself riding planes and helicopters over rebel territories. In some instances, I clambered up armored vehicles and trudged the jungles of Sulu and Samar when Gen. Ramos visited government troops in the frontline. Covering him as President was more back-breaking because he was always on the go visiting places and meeting his constituents. His foreign travels were no junkets.
