Indonesian foreign policy and the dilemma of dependence: From Sukarno to Soeharto
This book examines how a developing country like Indonesia attempts to rely on foreign aid and investment for national development without losing its independence and sovereignty. The approach is taken from the perspective of Indonesia's political elite—how their perceptions of the international system, superpowers, and the threat of dependency influence foreign policy. The author compares foreign policy under Sukarno and Suharto, demonstrating both dramatic changes and continuities in Indonesia's foreign policy orientation from the era of anti-imperialist confrontation to a development and investment approach.
