Prison Diaries
Prison Diaries (original: Karagarer Rojnamcha) is the second memoir of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, based on his diary entries during his prison terms between 1966 and 1968 under the Pakistani regime. In these poignant and honest reflections, Mujib provides a vivid account of daily life in jail — including the routines, hardships, and emotional toll of confinement. He writes about his political thoughts, his separation from family, his concern for fellow political prisoners, and his unwavering resolve. Through his prison writings, Mujib also reflects deeply on the broader political context: the struggle for Bengali rights, the conditions in East Pakistan, and his vision for the future. These diaries, recovered from several notebooks, are a crucial historical document that offers insight into both his personal life and the formative years of the movement that would eventually lead to the independence of Bangladesh.
