The Unfinished memories
The Unfinished Memoirs is the autobiographical work of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding father of Bangladesh. In this memoir, Mujib recounts his political journey from his early days as a student activist, through his imprisonments, and his struggle for Bengali rights and autonomy under the Pakistani regime. The book covers key events such as the language movement, his involvement in politics in East Bengal, and his reflections on major political figures of his time.
The memoir is titled “unfinished” because it ends around the mid-1950s, well before Bangladesh’s independence in 1971. Despite this, it offers profound insight into Mujib’s political philosophy, his commitment to democracy, and his vision for his people. Through rich personal recollections, he reveals his intellectual growth, his relationships with other political leaders, and his hopes and fears. This work is not just a personal narrative but a historical document that helps readers understand the formative period of Bangladesh’s national identity.
