Strategy to increase Indonesia’s representation in leadership positions in international organizations
Effective candidacy strategy and qualification of candidates are two most important factors determining the success of nomination of Indonesian nationals in election or selection/appointment of leadership positions in IOs. It is therefore crucial to prepare qualified candidates and develop effective strategy for candidacies in IOs.
This paper presents policy options and recommendations on how to increase Indonesia’s representation in leadership positions in IOs. The four policy options include setting targets and priorities, preparation of qualified candidates, strengthening institutional support and pursuing more active diplomacy for seeking opportunities in IOs. The paper recommends that the four policy options be pursued in sequence with a long-term goal of increasing the number of Indonesian nationals serving in leadership positions in IOs.
