From plate to policy: Envisioning a united effort for gastrodiplomacy in Indonesia
Indonesia's diverse culinary heritage presents a significant opportunity for enhancing international relations through gastrodiplomacy. This paper outlines the need for a more coordinated national strategy to harness this potential effectively, integrating it into broader diplomatic and cultural initiatives. It highlights current challenges, including inconsistent government support, limited private sector involvement, and logistical issues in ingredient exportation, which currently hamper the effectiveness of gastrodiplomacy initiatives.
To overcome these obstacles, the paper advocates for the establishment of a Presidential Regulation and a holistic committee involving many stakeholders, driven by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. These measures aim to ensure centralized coordination, consistent policy implementation, and stronger government commitment. Through these strategic enhancements, gastrodiplomacy can substantially boost Indonesia's cultural and economic influence globally.
