Economic diplomacy and empowering the role of women SMEs entrepreneurs in digital economy era
The four priorities of Indonesia’s foreign policy 2019–2024 are strengthening economic diplomacy, protection diplomacy, sovereignty and nationality diplomacy, Indonesia's role in the regional and global, and strengthening the infrastructure of diplomacy. The foreign policy carried out by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is aimed to bring national interest and is supported by the domestic readiness. The paper will be focusing on how Indonesia exercises the diplomacy economy in order to benefit from the international relations to recover from the Covid-19 pandemic.
In order to recover from the crisis caused by Covid-19 pandemic, one strategy that Indonesia should do is strengthening the economic diplomacy. Indonesia can optimize bilateral relations dan regional dan multilateral agreements to build capacity and expand global market through economic diplomacy. In conducting the economic diplomacy, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can focus on one business sector to be promoted and this paper will analyse the SMEs sector.
Indonesian SMEs are resilient in coping a crisis, they had gone through financial and monetary crisis in 1998 and 2008 yet their presence was able to support economic growth. Therefore, SMEs sector is the right sector to be promoted and furthermore the SMEs has contributed to Indonesia’s economic development continuously. The paper also will analyze the development of SMEs amid the crisis dan underlining women SMEs entrepreneurs.
Along with development of information and technology, now we are shifting to digital economy. Digital economy includes internet economy, web economy, digital-based economy, new economy knowledge, or new economy.1 The objective of the paper is to propose policy recommendations and strategies that Indonesia should take to strengthen the economic diplomacy by optimizing international relations and agreement to empowering the role of women SMEs entrepreneurs in digital economy era.
The recommendations further underline the important stages to be taken to strengthen Indonesian economic diplomacy, the parties involved, and optimize the role of women SMEs entrepreneurs in taking part in economic growth in digital economy era.
