MoFA's view of Indonesia survey: How to achieve a more reliable and valid survey
One of the tools used to measure Indonesia's image improvement is a Worldwide Survey on Indonesia’s Image or View of Indonesia Survey (Survei Citra Indonesia di Dunia Internasional). Since 2017, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, through the Directorate General of Information and Public Diplomacy, has been conducting the survey, compiling and calculating its results. The index resulting from this survey has become one of the Ministry's key performance indicators (KPI).
Although the survey has been developed and updated from time to time and produced expected results, it still has several issues and weaknesses concerning the survey’s validity and reliability. This paper highlights the current survey, analyzes those issues and weaknesses, and comes up with ideas for tackling them.
Based on the analysis of those issues, this study emphasizes the need for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to conduct a survey development program by appointing and hiring a professional consultant from reputable research institutions, organizing a series of Focus Group Discussions with relevant stakeholders, and developing the survey application to achieve a more reliable and valid survey.
