Indonesia’s diplomacy in developing new renewable energy and nuclear technology to meet Indonesia’s future energy demand
Besides renewable energy, Indonesia also supports nuclear technology to strengthen national food security due to climate change impacts. In 2021, Indonesia received an Outstanding Achievement Award from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for using nuclear technology for peaceful purposes. It therefore proves that Indonesia has a significant role in expanding its energy potential through cooperation as a means of increasing its commitment as stated in the Paris Agreement to prevent climate change and to implement sustainable development goals.
Therefore, this paper presents conclusion that guaranteeing a continuous supply of energy is a fundamental goal for national government and must be considered as national priority. Indonesia as bridge builder could play an important role to lead and establish an inclusive cooperation to tackle climate change by developing more technology in new renewable energy and nuclear as a potential power in fulfilling energy demand in the future.
