The establishment of INA-LAC Business Forum: an effort to increase trade in the Latin American market
Indonesia has yet to maximize the full potential of the Latin American market. In comparison to Indonesia’s neighbouring countries’ initiatives in creating a place for business stakeholders to connect with one another, Indonesia is few years behind. Indonesia has only recently started to explore opportunities in establishing a business forum through Kamar Dagang dan Industri (KADIN) Indonesia, the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry in 2016. Following the market opportunity exploration, Indonesia through its Ministry of Foreign Affairs has organized its first business forum with Latin American businesses in 2019.
This paper aims to identify challenges in relations with Indonesia’s effort to increase trade in the Latin American market through the establishment of INA-LAC Business Forum. This paper argues that while Indonesia’s economic diplomacy in increasing trade with Latin American countries through the establishment of INA-LAC Business Forum appears to be headed towards a positive direction, there are challenges analysed using CAGE Distance Framework that can hinder Indonesia’s economic diplomacy in the next upcoming years which include media coverage, change in web address, shipping distance, and different costs of data plan and internet-enabled devices which lead to uneven digital access.
