Bank Syariah Indonesia: a potential tool for Indonesia to strengthening the economic diplomacy
The Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Lestari Priansari Marsudi explained the four plus one priorities of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for 2022. One of those priorities is Economic Diplomacy. As a country with the largest Muslim population globally, Indonesia has great potential in the development of Islamic banking and finance, and it can help Indonesia strengthen its Economic Diplomacy. Bank Syariah Indonesia has the vision to become one of the ten largest Islamic banks in the world in terms of market capitalization in the next five years. If it happens, Indonesia's economy is not only growing, but Indonesia can also penetrate a bigger market in Islamic finance from around the world. This paper will elaborate on Bank Syariah Indonesia as one of Indonesia's tools to strengthen its Economic Diplomacy. The author will use any literature reviews. The author will also begin the discussions with a brief explanation of Economic Diplomacy and what is Bank Syariah and Bank Syariah Indonesia. In the analysis section, the author will review the strength of Islamic Banks as a part of economic diplomacy, challenges, and opportunities on utilizing BSI as a part of economic diplomacy, Case Study: Malaysia, and the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA). From these elaborations, the author will try to give some ideas about how Bank Syariah Indonesia can help Indonesia strengthen its Economic Diplomacy
