Diary of a Chinese diplomat
Zhang Deyi (1847-1919) went on a number of missions to the West, first as an interpreter, then a diplomat, and finally as the Qing's ambassador to Britain. Throughout his travels overseas he kept a detailed diary covering all aspects of the Western World: diplomatic activities, schooling, marriage, fire engines and contraceptives. His diaries comprise eight volumes in total. This is the translation of the second volume.
