Faith and resilience: The Republic of China on Taiwan forges ahead
In November 1982, I was appointed representive of the Coordination Council for North American Affairs, Officein USA. This was three months after the publication of the Joint Communiqué by the United States Government that would limit arms sales to my country. Our people at home were exceedingly worried about our relations with the United States; and my assignment seemed a "mission impossible." Having been educated in the United States some thirty years ago, I have infinite confidence in the American people. So, I made up my mind that once I arrived in Washington, DC, I would do all I could to tell our side of the story to the grassroots.
