The Soviet Union as an Asian Pacific power: Implications of Gorbachev's 1986 Vladivostok initiative
The first comprehensive academic study of Soviet foreign policy in the Asia Pacific region since Gorbachev's ascent to power, this book examines the domestic factors behind these recent initiatives and evaluates their regional implications. The Australian Defence Force Academy's March 1987 symposium on which this collection is based pooled the talents of senior scholars from the United States, Australia, and New Zealand. The importance of the ference is evidenced by the keen attention it received in the S press, with front-page reports appearing in Pravda, Isvestia, Krasnaia Zvezda.
