Australia and the third world: Report of the committee on Australia's relations with the third world
For the purpose of this inquiry the 'Third World' is taken to consist of all the countries of South and South East Asia; the countries of Africa which are not under white rule; all the countries of the Middle East and West Asia, except Turkey; all the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean; the new states of the Pacific and the Koreas. These countries, which number 119, are listed in Appendix C. For some purposes of economic analysis, Taiwan and Hong Kong are treated as part of the Third World. This concept of the Third World corresponds to general Western usage and the Committee believes that it reflects the Government's intended scope for the inquiry.
