Public policy & economic theory: A course in applied economics
the aim of this book is twofold: to provide material which is not conveniently available elsewhere in a single book and to focus on the techniques of applied economic analysis. The economic and political assumptions underlying formal economic models are identified as are those found in popular discussion. For instance, the author do not simply assume that inflation should be controlled but try to explain its economic and political consequences and the value-judgements implicit in hostility to inflation. Illustrations are given of the role of the economist in pointing out contradictions in government policy, in predicting its consequences and in quantifying them where possible.
