Text
L'Organisation mondiale du commerce
This book offers a rigorous and accessible review of the work of the GATT since its inception, and an assessment of the World Trade Organization (WTO) which succeeded it in 1995. It explains the historical evolution that led the community of nations to create an organization in 1948 to promote free trade. It compares the founding principles of the GATT and the WTO with the various forms of protectionism used by nations.
The author of this book provides a precise analysis of the causes of the difficulties encountered by the GATT, and the results of the Uruguay Round negotiations that gave rise to the WTO. He presents the WTO's operating rules and structures, and shows that the new institutions do not guarantee the adoption of free trade today.
