Production integration in CARICOM: From theory to action
The member states of CARICOM adopted a number of important initiatives designed to advance the process of regional integrations as evidenced by the 2006 launch of the Caribbean Single Market and the preparations for the CARICOM Single Market and Economy (CSME). Apart from the formal declarations of support for these processes however is recognition that specific strategies must be elaborated to achieve the stated objectives of the CSME. In this context, production integration, envisaged in Article 52 of the Revised Treaty of Chaguaramas, is seen as a key strategy for optimising the development possibilities of the region and for strengthening its capacity of effectively participate in the international economic system.
In Production Integration in CARICOM, academics, policymakers in government and the private sector as well as regional institutions identify the opportunities for promoting production integration in CARICOM and the necessary policy and institutional arrangements to achieve its objective.
