Educating for multiculturalism
This collection comprises formal papers and proceedings of the workshop and has been edited by Dr. Jill Cottrell to whom we are deeply indebted. The papers and commentaries bring together for the first time in Fiji's history, the thoughts and insights of politicians, academics, clergy, civil society activists, teachers, artists, curriculum writers and trade unionists on the incorporation of multiculturalism in school curriculum, in our daily interaction, through multi-lingualism and the promotion of intercultural understanding as well as through affirmative action policies and establishing mechanisms for conflict resolution.
The collection lays no claim to be a blue print for multiculturalism in Fiji but is definitely a milestone and a significant signpost on the road to building an inclusive multi-ethnic society which celebrates cultural diversity, promotes ethnic identity, intercultural understanding and national unity while giving due regard to indigenous rights and social justice.
