Attack on justice: The harassment and persecution of judges and lawyers

The tenth edition of attacks on justice, the annual report of the centre for the independence of judges and lawyers (cijl) analyses legal structures and their effects on the independence of judges and lawyers in 49 countries. It catalogues the cases of 412 jurists who suffered reprisals for carrying out their professional duties from january 1999 to february 2000. Of these, 16 were killed, 12 disappeared, 79 were prosecuted, arrested, detained or even tortured, 8 physically attacked, 35 verbally threatened and 262 professionally obstructed and/or sanctioned.
