Reviewing Indonesia's digital economic diplomacy: Opportunities, challenge and prospects of INA-ACCESS

The rapid development of information technology, namely since the start of the 21st century, has altered numerous aspects of everyday lives. Information technology has brought about fundamental changes throughout society, driving it forward from the industrial age to the networked era. In our world today, global information networks are vital infrastructure. With the digitization of information, more and more businesses are increasingly leveraging the benefits of digital tools to improve their prospects. Information technology has been crucial in turning this process into an effective and economical business endeavor.

The changing landscape of the world due to information technology advancement has clearly affected how businesses are run. Hence, it would only seem logical that government efforts to facilitate and promote the economy need to change as well in order to cope with the current reality. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia in 2020 has launched INA-ACCESS, a web portal designed as a digital tool to promote Indonesia’s trade and investment potentials. It is a significant improvement for the Indonesian economic diplomacy and has the potentials not only to assist Indonesian diplomats to carry out their work in promoting Indonesian trade, tourism and investment, but also to serve as an efficient platform for business matching.

It is important to highlight and appreciate the many excellent benefits that INA-ACCESS has delivered. However, as like all other good processes and mechanism need continuous assessments for improvements, INA-ACCESS will significantly benefit from evaluations, specifically on the opportunities it now presents, the challenges it currently faces, and the prospects it may provide in the future.
