Paving way for animation as a creative economy diplomacy
Indonesia’s creative economy diplomacy has been successful in gaining its support and reputation with the decision on The United Nations to declared 2021 as a year of Sustainable Creative Economy and hosting World Conference on Creative Economy. Therefore it is time to use it as leverage and implement it for concrete actions in economic diplomacy.
Animation as a sub-sector creative economy is growing in the last 5 years and less affected by Pandemic due to its product form and global market. Animation industry in Indonesia is in the developing stage with many young talented animators and studio animations joining this sector. This sector also has much potential to expand globally, through IP as well as digital global labor market.
Looking at the Animation landscape of Southeast Asia, Indonesian Animation Industry’s current environment and challenges, this Paper will examine the support that is needed by the Animation Industry in Indonesia to expand globally, and how the Ministry of Foreign Affairs could support the Industry, through formulation of policy and strategy based on future scenario methodology.
