BUMN go global paving the way for Indonesian enterprises as top player in Southeast Asia, South and Central Asia, and Africa
As predicted by prominent world economic research institutions, Indonesia will become a major economic power in the next 10-30 years. Indonesia's relatively high economic growth in the last 25 years is predicted to continue in the years to come. Indonesia's economic growth is in line with the growth of Indonesian companies. Indonesian companies, especially state-owned enterprises (SOEs)/ Badan Usaha Milik Negara (BUMN), is expected to compete globally and expand their business overseas in the next few years.
In the framework of economic diplomacy, Indonesia has launched the program of “BUMN Go Global”. The program is intended to pursue Indonesian BUMN international competitiveness and to increase Indonesian exports. To support the program, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs signed the Memorandum of Understanding of Cooperation with the Ministry of BUMN on July 17, 2020, and with PT Pertamina on January 21, 2021.
The government policy to encourage outbound investment are relatively new and quite challenging. Outbound investment policy aims to anticipate the increasing number of Indonesian companies expanding their business overseas in the future. To accomplish the missions, Indonesia must apply comprehensive strategic approach that integrates all stakeholders and correlated factors. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to encourage and facilitate Indonesia's outbound investment abroad, to expand the Indonesian product market and increase the competitiveness of Indonesian industries at the global level.
