Environment and Europe: European Union environment law and policy and its impact on industry

The present volume focuses on the issues raised by European Union environmental law and policy. This field of legislative and administrative activity has grown ever more important through the last few years, both in broad political terms and in its impact on industry. At the time of writing a total of some 130 major legislative acts (not with standing all amending and implementing acts) had been issued by 'Brussels', whilst a number of political initiatives (action programmer, funding, etc.) have also substantially affected the overall perspective. As a result, a picture has emerged in which EU priorities sometimes reinforce, sometimes conflict with national priorities in the individual Member States. Through a number of crucial, but also sometimes complex judgments, the Court of Justice has tried to strike a proper balance between those priorities.
