Indonesian digital diplomacy strategy plan: Naked diplomacy in the digital era
We have witnessed the development of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) over the past decade. The world is moving towards the digital era, where activities are influenced by internet. Whether we like it or not, the digital age has affected the conduct of diplomacy in so many ways. The digital diplomacy is multifaceted through digital platforms including website and social medias, and requires a naked diplomacy, more access of information, more engagement with the stakeholders, and of course it requires openness and transparency.
Hit by the global pandemic, more than ever, digital diplomacy is becoming more important tool for the Government across the globe, including in Indonesia, to reach national and international audience, to touch the heart of the people, and to especially get the message conveyed. The people mobility restrictions put in place by the Governments around the globe have put the people in no option other than seeking information digitally.
This paper provides qualitative research findings on the need of naked diplomacy in the digital era, discuss the challenges, and provide recommendation of what to be done to cope with the challenges from the gap analysis. The purpose of the paper is to propose a policy recommendation on digital diplomacy strategy plan (white book) for MOFA RI.
