Le Senegal et la Gambie
Senegal and Gambia by Hubert Deschamps is a comprehensive study of the history, geography, society, and political dynamics that shape two neighboring countries in West Africa: Senegal and Gambia. Using a historical and ethnographic approach, Deschamps traces the development of this region from pre-colonial times, through the period of European exploration and French-British colonization, to the formation of modern social and administrative structures. This book highlights the close relationship between the two countries, including cultural similarities, ethnic networks, and cross-border economic and political interactions. In addition, this work examines development challenges, migration patterns, and the strategic position of Senegal and Gambia in the context of West Africa. As one of the first systematic studies of the region, Le Sénégal et la Gambie is an important reference for research on the history, politics, and anthropology of West Africa.
