Text
A new history of Sierra Leone
A New History of Sierra Leone is an absorbing account of the history of the country from pre-colonial times to the present day. The book opens with an examination of the political organisation of the major language communities before the arrival of Europeans in Sierra Leone. The establishment of the Sierra Leone Colony and the declaration of the Protectorate and structure of local government are carefully analysed from both a political and a socio-economic point of view. The author finally examines the transfer of power and developments in the country since independence. However, it is the people of Sierra Leone who are the main focus of the book, both in terms of individuals and the communities who have shaped the country's history.
