Indonesia foreign policy on the Palestinian cause: Introducing the history of Indonesian national movement towards Palestinian youth
As one of the Palestine’s closest partners, Indonesia must maintain its active roles in promoting peace and independence for the Palestinian. It is clear however, many efforts taken by the Indonesian government, such as funding assistance to UNRWA, and technical or infrastructure assistance, have yet contributed much stride in resolving the conflict. To further strengthen Soft Diplomacy in its foreign policy, Indonesia needs to find innovative ways that can help Palestinians gaining its independence. Priority should be focused on empowering Palestinian youth to revitalize its unity and national movement.
Indonesia can share its history of national movement as best practices for Palestinian on the process of achieving national independence from colonial powers. The history of Indonesia’s national movement during its quest for independence serves a solid reference for Palestinian youth to achieve similar purposes. The policy brief recommends Kemlu and other stakeholders to explores cooperation with government and non-government counterparts to share Indonesia’s history of national movement towards Palestinian youth. This approach, despite the result will take years to come, could bring significant contribution for the course of Palestinian struggle for independence. Importantly, it will leverage Indonesia’s position as a significant player that actively contributes in resolving the Israel-Palestinian conflict.
