Strengthening the role of Ministry of Foreign Affairs in promoting startups in Indonesia to international venture capitals
Indonesia has become the most popular investment destination in the Southeast Asian region, due to the rise of innovation within Indonesia’s startup ecosystem. Jakarta, the Silicon Valley of Indonesia, is the main reason why Indonesia’s innovation has gained traction in recent years. Unfortunately, amidst the tremendous opportunity in the development of the digital economy, Indonesia still lacks of digital talents and venture capital funding for business expansion.
As challenges in developing thousands of startups in Indonesia are heavily related to an investment opportunity, availability of high technology, as well as capacity-building cooperation, this paper evaluates the current development of startups as well as the supporting role that has been implemented by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the backbone of Indonesia’s diplomacy in addressing those challenges.
This paper provides an analysis of how the Ministry of Foreign Affairs can further strengthen its support for promoting startups in Indonesia to international venture capitals based on its role to support economic diplomacy, which is one of Indonesia’s foreign policy priorities.
