The future of Indonesia’s food security
Global food security are facing multiple challenges. The COVID-19 pandemic, the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, and the climate change has causes a series of shocks and have causes a reversal of progress in several economic and social dimensions, including food security and agricultural productivity. Indonesia is definitely not immune to this, Indonesia's food security index experienced a significant decline and stagnation. Indonesia, like other developing countries, has a long history of food security issues and the crisis poses even more challenges. The trend for food security in the near future is still very challenging and the Indonesian government should take the necessary measures to ensure the nation’s food security.
The Indonesian government should strengthen its national capacity with regards to the national food supply chain and increase bilateral, regional, multilateral cooperation to partake in and strengthen global food supply chain. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and diplomacy can play a crucial role in supporting Indonesia's food security by fostering international cooperation, promoting trade agreements that benefit the country's agriculture sector, and facilitating the transfer of technology and knowledge.
