Palestinian issue amid changing geopolitical dynamics: prospects for strengthening Indonesia's diplomacy
This paper delves into the contemporary developments surrounding the Palestinian predicament, which transpire within the complex web of geopolitical dynamics. These dynamics encompass a shifting U.S. policy, the Russia-Ukraine conflict, the wave of normalization between Arab nations and Israel, and the escalating tensions and confrontations between Palestine and Israel.
In an overarching context, this paper discerns the Palestinian issue as facing a formidable challenge, and the prospects for attaining a peaceful resolution adhering to the two-state solution, a vision espoused by both Indonesia and the international community, remain arduous.
Hence, this paper advocates for an augmented Indonesian role in extending support to Palestine through a range of innovative initiatives that can yield tangible contributions to peace efforts. These measures include advocating for the establishment of a peacekeeping force in Jerusalem and along the Gaza border and the appointment of a Special Envoy or non-Resident Ambassador to Palestine. This envoy would be dedicated to conducting diplomatic endeavors focused on bolstering support for the Palestinian cause.
