For more than a decade as Indonesia's foremost diplomat, Ali Alatas in his speeches dissected and explore many issues: disarmament, reform of the United Nations, global and regional security, the imbalances in international economic relations, globalization, liberalization and a host of other. But always the theme was durable peace and the only way to reach it-by way of justice. As he propounds in this book: Only peace based on justice, on a recognition of the equal worth of all human lives the equal validity of all human aspirations can become true peace. And because it is based on justice true peace is durable. In a regime of peace founded on justice there is a harmonious balance between freedom and responsibility and in that balance the human potential and human creativity can soar. Cooperation among individuals and among nations becomes the natural course of human activity. Thus humanity can muster the resources and acquire the necessary synergy for the conquest of poverty.
