A quiet revolution: Women in transition in rural Bangladesh
This book is more than a thorough case study; it is a critical analy- sis for anyone interested in women, poverty, and economic development. Together with BRAC field staff, Chen helped organize over six thousand women into over two hundred and fifty cooperative groups. Through these groups, the women have begun to generate higher incomes and exercise more power and autonomy. The learning and experience that came from developing this program demonstrate the complexity of program implementation and provide guidelines for future development policies.
