Creating small business opportunities in economic diplomacy
Support for the advancement of Indonesian SMEs, which number around 65 million, is a main priority for the Government of the Republic of Indonesia, which is also Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ (MOFA) main priority in carrying out the economic diplomacy. The economic diplomacy is expected to create business opportunities of businessmen, especially for SMEs. MOFA played roles with various promotional activities such as: various exhibitions, facilitation of business meetings, regional business forum, and establishing economic digital platform. Through these activities which have had an impact on increasing the interaction and business opportunities of SMEs and Indonesian business actors with foreign businessmen.
This paper will use the terms and concepts of economic diplomacy and Small Medium Enterprises (SMEs) to analyse the problem in this topic. Based on this analysis, the proposal recommends that the MoFA and related Ministries’ role on creating business opportunities by empowering Indonesia’s Missions Abroad to support SMEs go global market.
This paper proposes the policy options and strategy on how to create business opportunities through economic diplomacy, especially for SMEs market access digital platform, creating thematic exhibition SMEs products, and establishing Indonesia SMEs Trading House in overseas.
