Refugees and regional security in South Asia

---

Regional relations in South Asia have always been afflicted by the movements of people across territorial boundaries of the states. Rapidly growing dimensions of refugee flows during the past decades have seriously affected security and stability of both the refugee generating as well as receiving states. This is one of the first studies of how refugee flows have vitiated security environment in South Asia at the national, bilateral and regional levels. The security implications of refugee flows have been studied in the cases of Afghan refu- gees in Pakistan, Tibetan refugees, Sri Lankan and Bangladeshi (Chakmas) refu- gees in India and the Bhutanese refugees in Nepal. These case studies have been con- tributed by the scholars from all the South Asian countries. The editors have provided a comparative and thematic framework to put the whole issue in a perspective.
