Strengthening bilateral economic cooperation between Indonesia and Russia: focusing on trade

The bilateral relation between Indonesia and Russia has been established since more than 70 years ago. In 2003, the relation was elevated into Declaration on Strategic Partnership. The Economic Cooperation is more advance than others cooperation.

This paper is aimed to identify key factors affecting the bilateral trade cooperation and to propose recommendation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) to strengthen bilateral trade cooperation. The Strength, Weakness, Opportunity and Threat (SWOT) analysis is used to identify opportunities and challenges exist and to formulate recommendation.

Based on the SWOT analysis, the writer found that key factors affecting the bilateral trade cooperation is dominated by strengths and opportunities factors. This finding is relevant with statistical data of bilateral trade between the two countries in which proportion of total trade volume to the world is relative small. It means there is an opportunity to strengthen the cooperation in order to increase the proportion of bilateral trade.
