In search of human rights: Legal-political dilemmas of Indonesia's new order, 1966-1990

Discussion, analysis, ideas, and thoughtful argument may not be enough by themselves to achieve fundamental reform, but without them helpful reform of any kind is out of the question. The contribution Mulya Lubis makes here to a serious debate will no doubt grow when his book is translated, as I hope it will be, into Indonesian. It is significant as well, however, in English, for a wider audience. If our comprehension of human rights is to evolve sanely, free of cynicism but also of naive optimism, sophisticated understanding of the issues is essential.
