Enhancing The Competitiveness Of Indonesian Migrant Workers: A Strategy For Post-Covid-19 Economic Diplomacy
Indonesian migrant workers contribute significantly to the national economy through remittances, local economic development, and unemployment reduction. However, limited skills and competitiveness remain major challenges in facing international labour market competition. The COVID-19 pandemic has further disrupted efforts to improve human resource quality. This study aims to formulate policy recommendations for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to prioritize migrant workers’ competitiveness in Indonesia’s economic diplomacy. It focuses on two main strategies: improving the quality of education, vocational training, and skills development, as well as expanding access to information on overseas employment opportunities. Through scenario analysis, the study explores how the pandemic can serve as an opportunity to improve the management of Indonesian migrant worker placement and develop alternative economic diplomacy policies to strengthen the quality and competitiveness of Indonesian workers in the international labour market.
