The Significance Of Enhancing Indonesia-Jordan Investment Cooperation In Phosphate Sector Towards Achieving Food Security
Strengthening Indonesia’s national fertilizer industry requires a sustainable supply of raw materials, particularly phosphate rock, which is a key component in fertilizer production. In this regard, Jordan has become a strategic partner for Indonesia due to its position as one of the world’s major phosphate producers and exporters. The two countries have established an investment partnership through PT Petro Jordan Abadi, a joint phosphate-processing company operating in Gresik since 2015, while also exploring the development of a similar joint venture in Aceh and potential Indonesian investment in Jordan’s upstream phosphate mining industry. This paper examines the strategic importance of enhancing Indonesia–Jordan investment cooperation in the phosphate industry to support national food security and agricultural productivity. It highlights the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in facilitating effective diplomatic communication, organizing bilateral visits, and optimizing existing cooperation mechanisms, particularly the Joint Commission, to accelerate investment realization and strengthen bilateral economic relations.
