Digital Economic Diplomacy For Indonesia’S Msmes In The Year Of Creative Economy: A Path Towards Stronger Recovery
The year 2021 marked an important momentum for Indonesia’s economic diplomacy amid efforts to strengthen the creative and digital economies and recover from the economic downturn caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) play a strategic role in national economic recovery, particularly through the adoption of digital platforms for business transactions and marketing. However, this transformation presents challenges concerning the readiness of Indonesian MSMEs and diplomatic institutions to compete in the global digital economy, especially against international businesses supported by advanced information technology infrastructure and innovation policies. This paper examines the role of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in optimizing digital economic diplomacy to support Indonesian MSMEs, including those operating in knowledge-, creativity-, and innovation-based industries. It explores opportunities arising from the Fourth Industrial Revolution, the strengthening of diplomatic infrastructure at home and abroad, and coordination with relevant ministries, institutions, stakeholders, and experts. These efforts aim to expand market access, enhance MSME competitiveness, and advance Indonesia’s mission of recovering together and emerging stronger through an inclusive and sustainable digital and creative economy.
