Strengthening diplomatic negotiation skills for Indonesian diplomat in a vast changing world: from training and simulation to doing negotiation
This study examines the need to strengthen Indonesian diplomats’ negotiation skills amid the growing complexity of international relations and the increasing involvement of state and non-state actors. It highlights the limited opportunities for diplomats to gain practical experience in multilateral negotiations and proposes a structured program for their participation in the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) sessions. Drawing on training and lessons from other ASEAN countries, the study recommends systematic candidate selection, preparatory training, and direct participation in multilateral negotiations to enhance diplomatic capabilities and advance Indonesia’s national interests.
