Strengthening economic diplomacy in Africa: lessons learned in promoting Indonesia’s aircraft CN-235 in Senegal
Indonesia’s economic diplomacy seeks to expand access to non-traditional markets, including Africa, to promote economic growth and improve public welfare. The Indonesia-Africa Forum (IAF) in 2018 and the Indonesia-Africa Infrastructure Dialogue (IAID) in 2019, both held in Bali, generated business agreements demonstrating the potential for Indonesia-Africa economic cooperation. Senegal represents a potential partner, particularly following its acquisition of three CN-235 aircraft manufactured by PT Dirgantara Indonesia since 2010. This cooperation provides opportunities to expand the promotion of CN-235 aircraft in West Africa. This study aims to strengthen Indonesia’s economic diplomacy in Africa by examining lessons from Indonesia-Senegal cooperation and identifying strategic measures to enhance partnerships, expand aviation industry exports, and promote sustainable economic cooperation across the region.
