Ministry of Foreign Affairs as the coordinator for foreign relation and policy: implementation and challenges
This paper examines the coordinating role of Indonesia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs in managing interministerial and interagency engagement in foreign relations. As international issues increasingly require cross-sectoral approaches, the study assesses existing coordination practices across four thematic areas, identifies institutional challenges, and applies scenario planning to develop policy options. It recommends strengthening the Ministry’s coordination mechanisms to ensure coherent foreign policy implementation, improve interagency collaboration, and safeguard Indonesia’s national interests.
