Strengthening Indonesia healthcare system in facing future pandemic through national resilience and international cooperation
This paper will discuss how the COVID-19 crisis is forcing countries across the globe to struggle with emergency healthcare provision, challenging citizen behaviors, widespread industry disruption, and broader economic consequences. It has put significant pressure and impact on the world, including Indonesia. We can learn valuable lessons to face a future pandemic from handling the COVID-19 pandemic in Indonesia and the world. Indonesia must continue to improve its capabilities in the healthcare system to be resilient and able to control and overcome the next pandemic.
At the international level, many countries withdrew themselves from international cooperation and multilateralism. Covid-19 managed to push countries beyond their limit and incite their individualistic behavior. Many countries showed nationalism and geopolitics in different manifestations throughout, from early in the pandemic to issues of vaccine nationalism and now in the distribution of vaccines. To prevent this from happening again in the future, global leadership, good coordination, and firm commitment toward international cooperation and multilateralism are desperately needed.
