Empowering the Indonesia’s scholarship beneficiaries to support Indonesia’s gastrodiplomacy
This paper examines the potential of gastrodiplomacy as an instrument of Indonesia’s soft power and public diplomacy. Despite its rich culinary diversity, Indonesia lacks a comprehensive gastrodiplomacy policy and has yet to fully engage non-state actors in promoting its cuisine internationally. The paper highlights foreign scholarship recipients studying Indonesian arts, culture, and language as potential ambassadors of Indonesian gastronomy upon returning to their home countries. It recommends leveraging these alumni networks to strengthen international culinary promotion, enhance Indonesia’s cultural appeal, and support a more coordinated and sustainable gastrodiplomacy strategy.
