Promoting Indonesia in Chile: how to raise awareness about Indonesia among chileans
The implementation of the Indonesia–Chile Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IC-CEPA) on August 10, 2019, created opportunities for Indonesia to expand its exports to Latin America. However, tariff reductions and duty-free access for thousands of products may not be sufficient to increase bilateral trade if awareness of Indonesia and its products among Chilean consumers and businesses remains limited. This paper examines the importance of raising Chile’s awareness of Indonesia to strengthen the effectiveness of IC-CEPA while addressing competitive pressures from other countries. It argues that tariff advantages need to be complemented by strategic promotion, stronger country branding, product marketing, and targeted trade information. The paper proposes marketing approaches for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Embassy of Indonesia in Santiago to improve Indonesia’s visibility, expand market access, and enhance the competitiveness of Indonesian products in Chile.
