Leveraging ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific to Promote the Achievement of Affordable and Clean Energy (SDG 7)

Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 7 on affordable and clean energy, is a key priority for ASEAN’s sustainable development agenda and its commitments under the Paris Agreement. This paper examines how Indonesia can accelerate SDG 7 implementation across the region through the ASEAN Outlook on the Indo-Pacific (AOIP). Drawing on SWOT analysis, scenario planning, the Moonshots approach, and a Weighted-Scoring Model, it recommends that Indonesia encourage ASEAN Member States to mobilize regional investment in low-carbon technologies, including new and renewable energy, through Indo-Pacific cooperation. This strategy aims to strengthen regional collaboration, accelerate the energy transition, and translate AOIP into practical initiatives that advance energy security and climate objectives across ASEAN.
