Enhancing Financial Literacy of Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Employees to Strengthen Diplomatic Infrastructure
Financial literacy is a factor influencing employees’ financial wellbeing and has the potential to support improvements in human resource performance at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia. Strengthening diplomatic infrastructure through human resource development requires attention to employee wellbeing, including the ability to manage personal finances. Drawing on data collected through questionnaires and interviews, this study examines employees’ financial literacy, their needs and challenges, and the existing financial literacy policies implemented by the Ministry. Based on the findings, three policy options are proposed to optimize the Ministry’s role in improving employees’ financial literacy: building basic financial literacy awareness, conducting regular seminars with segmented and thematic content, and providing open access to financial information. These options can be implemented in the short term to improve existing programs, while institutionalizing the initiatives represents a long-term strategy to ensure their sustainability. Consistent institutional commitment to providing financial literacy programs is expected to enhance employees’ motivation, engagement, and productivity while strengthening the quality of human resources as a vital component of Indonesia’s diplomatic infrastructure.
